QuickBooks Online
Track credit card purchases—how it works
You can use QuickBooks Online to track credit card use so you feel more in control of your business. If your company uses credit cards, QuickBooks Online helps you track the following information:
- Reference Number: You can enter a transaction identifying number from the charge slip.
- Date: QuickBooks Online automatically inserts today's date, or you can easily change it to match the date of purchase.
- Purchased From: You can enter a vendor (person or business), or leave this field empty.
- Amount: This is where you enter the purchase amount. If the transaction was complicated, QuickBooks Online helps you with the math.
- Memo: As an option, you can write a memo which appears in the register and on transaction-related reports that include this purchase.
- Account: For tracking purposes, this is where you designate the account or accounts related to this purchase.
- Customer: If the credit purchase was directly related to a customer (such as on a specific customer project) you can choose a customer here. This helps you track how much you're spending by customer, and allows you to bill the customer for the expense.
- Billable: Check this box if you want to have this expense billed to a customer.*
If your business operates from multiple locations, you can also track credit card use by location.**
